Do the smart plugs and sockets in this category fit UAE wall outlets?+
Most UAE homes use Type G (British-style, BS 1363) outlets, while our wall sockets and most smart plugs, such as the Luxion 16A Wi-Fi Smart Plug, Sonoff S60TPF and Meross MSS425F power strip, are European Schuko (Type F). They are not BS 1363 compatible, so check the plug type on each listing before ordering.
Do these smart home devices work with Alexa in the UAE?+
Many do, depending on the model. Alexa launched officially in the UAE in 2021 with English and Khaleeji Arabic. Products such as the Sonoff Mini-Dim, Sonoff THR316 and Luxion Mini-Smart Wi-Fi Relay list Amazon Alexa and Google Home support. Check the 'Works with' details on each product.
Can I control an existing light or appliance without replacing my switches?+
Yes. Compact relays such as the Sonoff Mini-Dim and Luxion Mini-Smart Wi-Fi Relay fit behind an existing switch and add app and voice control. Because they connect to fixed wiring, they should be installed by a qualified electrician following local authority rules (DEWA, ADDC/AADC or SEWA).
Which apps do these devices use?+
It depends on the brand. Luxion and BeOk devices generally use the Tuya / Smart Life app, Sonoff uses eWeLink, and Nuki, Yale and Somfy have their own apps or systems, such as TaHoma for Somfy. Some Sonoff relays, including the Mini-D and Mini-Dim, also support Matter.
Are there smart locks suitable for apartments in the UAE?+
The category includes the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra, Pro 5.0 and Go, plus the Yale Linus L2, with keypads and bridges available. Tenants in Dubai should note that the unified Ejari tenancy contract prohibits alterations without the landlord's written approval, so check before changing a door lock.
