Which thermostats in this category work with fan-coil (FCU) air conditioning?+
The BeOk AC models are wired Wi-Fi thermostats for air conditioning and HVAC fan-coil systems, controlling fans and valves by room temperature: TGT70WIFI-AC2, TGT70WIFI-AC4, TDS21WIFI-AC2, TDS21WIFI-AC4 and TDS23WiFi-AC. Most of the other models are designed for heating (boilers, underfloor heating or radiators), not for cooling.
What is the difference between a 2-pipe and a 4-pipe fan-coil thermostat?+
A 2-pipe fan-coil system uses a single water circuit, so the thermostat controls one valve plus the fan speeds. A 4-pipe system has separate chilled and hot water circuits, so it needs a thermostat that can drive two valves. Check your FCU wiring and valve type before choosing between the AC2 and AC4 BeOk versions.
Do I need an electrician to fit a wired AC thermostat in my UAE apartment?+
Yes. Wired thermostats connect to fixed wiring and to the fan-coil fans and valves, so they should be installed by a qualified electrician following local authority rules (DEWA, ADDC/AADC or SEWA). Tenants should also get the landlord's written approval before making changes, as standard Dubai tenancy contracts restrict modifications.
Is there an option for a split AC unit without rewiring?+
The Owon AC201 smart thermostat makes an existing air conditioner smart using IR learning, with control through the SmartOWON app and scene integration. Because it works over infrared rather than wiring into the unit, it suits remote-controlled AC units rather than wired fan-coil systems.
Which app and voice assistants do these thermostats work with?+
Most BeOk and Luxion models are controlled via the Tuya / Smart Life app. The Luxion LXD-WF-86WK lists Amazon Alexa and Google Home support, and the Livolo Zigbee EC thermostats work with Alexa and Google Home through the Livolo hub. Alexa officially launched in the UAE in December 2021, supporting English and Khaleeji Arabic.
Do any of these thermostats need a separate hub?+
Yes, some do. The Livolo touch thermostats use Zigbee and need the Livolo Zigbee EC hub. The Meross MTS150 radiator valve requires the Meross hub, which is not included. The Wi-Fi BeOk and Luxion models connect directly to your home Wi-Fi network.
