Smart Home Cost in the UAE: Hardware Prices in AED
A basic smart setup for a UAE studio can start from around AED 700 in hardware, a 2-bedroom apartment from around AED 1,000, and a villa from around AED 3,000 or more. Here is how those figures are built, item by item.

Short answer: using our catalogue prices, example hardware bundles start from about AED 684 for a studio, about AED 1,000 for a 2-bedroom apartment and about AED 3,048 for a villa (before any smart lock).
These are hardware-only examples. They exclude installation, which we do not provide, and any delivery charges, import VAT or duty. Fixed wiring work must be done by a qualified electrician.
How much does a smart home cost in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE? For the hardware alone, a sensible starter kit for a studio costs from roughly AED 700, a 2-bedroom apartment from roughly AED 1,000, and a villa with outdoor cameras, a central control panel and extra lighting control from roughly AED 3,000 upwards. The figures below are built from real "from" prices in our Smart Home range, so you can see exactly what each total includes.
What these totals do not include is labour. Most smart switches and relays connect to fixed wiring, so you will need a qualified electrician, and their fee depends on your property, the number of points and the work involved. Get a written quote before you order so you know your full budget.
What drives the cost
Four things decide what you will spend:
- Number of control points. Each light circuit you want to control needs a relay, dimmer or smart switch. A villa simply has more circuits than a studio.
- Retrofit or replace. Small relays that sit behind your existing switches are usually cheaper than replacing every switch plate. Full glass or marble switch sets cost more but change the look of the room.
- Security hardware. Cameras, a keypad entry system and a solar-powered 4G camera for a gate or garden add up quickly.
- Fit with UAE wiring. UAE homes typically use square BS 4662 back boxes and Type G (BS 1363) sockets. Many of our switch plates are Italian modular (2/3M, 3M, 4M) and our sockets and most smart plugs are European Schuko (Type F). Check that each item suits your back boxes and sockets before you buy; this can change what you choose and what your electrician needs to do.
Studio apartment example (AED)
A studio needs only a handful of devices to feel noticeably smarter: app and voice control of the main lights, a dimmable lamp circuit, an indoor camera and a gas leak alarm for the kitchen.
| Item | Qty | From (AED) | Subtotal (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxion Mini-Smart Wi-Fi Relay | 2 | 47 | 94 |
| Sonoff Mini-Dim Wi-Fi Smart Dimmer Relay | 1 | 120 | 120 |
| Uniarch Wi-Fi Pan & Tilt IP Camera, 3MP | 1 | 185 | 185 |

| Luxion Wi-Fi Smart Gas Sensor | 1 | 158 | 158 |
| Example total | 684 | ||
The Luxion Mini-Smart Wi-Fi Relay works with Alexa and Google Home and is designed to make ordinary devices smart. The Sonoff Mini-Dim fits behind an existing switch and supports Matter. Before buying either, check the product page and your switch box for wiring requirements such as whether a neutral wire is needed. If you rent, remember that the unified Ejari tenancy contract requires the landlord's written approval for alterations, so get permission before any wiring changes. The camera, LED strip and gas sensor need no fixed wiring.
2-bedroom apartment example (AED)
For a 2-bedroom flat, add more lighting circuits, a second dimmer and a Wi-Fi power strip for a desk or TV area.
| Item | Qty | From (AED) | Subtotal (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxion Mini-Smart Wi-Fi Relay | 4 | 47 | 188 |
| Sonoff Mini-Dim Wi-Fi Smart Dimmer Relay | 2 | 120 | 240 |
| Uniarch Wi-Fi Pan & Tilt IP Camera, 3MP | 1 | 185 | 185 |
| Luxion Wi-Fi Smart Gas Sensor | 1 | 158 | 158 |
| Meross MSS425F Smart Power Strip | 1 | 102 | 102 |
| Sonoff L1 Smart RGB LED Strip Kit, 4 m | 1 | 127 | 127 |
| Example total | 1,000 | ||
Note that the Meross strip has Schuko sockets and an EU plug, not a UAE Type G plug, so check how it would connect in your home before ordering. If you would rather swap tired switch plates for glass ones at the same time, browse our Touch Light Switches; mechanical Luxion glass-frame switches start from AED 34, but they are Italian modular sizes, so confirm back box compatibility with your electrician first.
Villa example (AED)
A villa usually calls for more circuits, outdoor cameras, a central control point and some form of keyless entry.
| Item | Qty | From (AED) | Subtotal (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxion Mini-Smart Wi-Fi Relay | 8 | 47 | 376 |
| Sonoff Mini-Dim Wi-Fi Smart Dimmer Relay | 3 | 120 | 360 |

| Geeklink GC-3 Smart Outdoor IP Camera | 2 | 164 | 328 |
| Uniarch Wi-Fi Pan & Tilt IP Camera, 3MP | 1 | 185 | 185 |
| EZVIZ 4G Solar IP Camera Kit (gate or garden) | 1 | 758 | 758 |
| Luxion Wi-Fi Smart Gas Sensor | 2 | 158 | 316 |
| Example total | 3,048 | ||
The Luxion All-in-One Smart Control Panel has a 4-inch touchscreen and uses Wi-Fi, Zigbee and Bluetooth to control lights, AC, curtains and sensors from one place, with doorbell integration. The EZVIZ kit is designed for spots without mains power or internet.
Optional extras that raise the total:
- Keyless entry: the Nuki Keypad 2.0 (from AED 775) adds PIN, fingerprint and NFC unlocking, but it needs a Nuki Smart Lock, sold separately. See Smart Locks and check that the lock suits your door and cylinder.
- Curtains and blinds: the Somfy Izymo IO Transmitter (from AED 326) turns an existing wall switch into a wireless control for io-compatible blinds and shutters. Browse Motorised Curtains for motors and tracks.
- Ventilation: Helty heat recovery units start from AED 3,046 per unit and are a separate, larger project.
Hardware vs installation costs
Every figure in this guide is hardware only. We sell the products; we do not install them. Your real budget should include:
- Electrician's labour for relays, dimmers, switches, control panels and wired cameras. Any fixed wiring must be done by a qualified electrician and follow the rules of your local authority, such as DEWA in Dubai, ADDC/AADC in Abu Dhabi or SEWA in Sharjah.
- Possible extra parts, for example different back boxes or adapters if a European or Italian-format product does not suit your existing fittings.
- Delivery, import VAT and any customs duty. Orders ship from the EU by DHL Express; check current UAE import rules so there are no surprises.
- Landlord approval if you rent, before any change to fixed wiring.
Ask your electrician to quote per point and to confirm, from each product's specifications, that it suits your back boxes and wiring.
Where to spend first
- Safety first: a gas sensor in any kitchen with a gas supply is a low-cost, high-value starting point.
- Lights you use every day: one relay or dimmer on the living room and bedroom circuits gives the biggest daily benefit.
- Security if you travel: an indoor camera you can check from your phone during long summer trips.
- Comfort later: AC control is a major factor in UAE homes. Fan-coil units in many apartments need a thermostat that matches your system (2-pipe or 4-pipe), so check your unit before browsing Wi-Fi Thermostats.
- Design upgrades last: glass or marble switch plates look great but add cost without adding functions over a hidden relay.
Start small, choose one app ecosystem (for example Tuya/Smart Life, eWeLink or a brand app) and expand room by room.
